Zoomer The Robot Dog

Zoomer The Robot Dog Review

Zoomer Is Putting The Pet in Robotic Pets – We are happy to report that the robotic pet market is about to get more playful.  Introducing Zoomer, a new voice activated robot dog toy from Spin Master.  With a look not dissimilar to a Dalmation, Zoomer – or Zoomer Pup – was recently unveiled at the major toy fairs, and this cute little boy has proved a hit with children and adults alike.

Zoomer understands SPANISH and FRENCH, as well as English!  How’s that for clever – and educational too. Zoomer looks like a Dalmatian puppy and to date it is the most advanced robo-dog that there’s been. Zoomer is fully articulated and interactive, and best of all while looking and acting like a real puppy, Zoomer is mess free. No trips to the vets or walks every day, no toilet training, completely hypoallergenic and no responsibility.

With its fully articulated limbs Zoomer has a full range of motion, and with its ‘ball paws’ it can be used on any surface. It can also act and move just like a real playful puppy, wagging its tail, rolling around and crouching. Its LED eyes can track movements across the room turn into hearts when “I love you” is said. Zoomer also have voice activated commands and can learn when he is played with.

What Spin Master Say:

“Zoomer is playful, funny and he’ll steal your heart in an instant. Just like a real dog you’ll need to teach him everything a puppy needs to know. Call his name, teach him lots tricks and watch how excited he gets when you reward him with a real good belly scratch. Kids can run play and laugh as Zoomer excitedly wags his tail and responds to their commands.
Zoomer is smart as a whip and can understand English, Spanish and French. He even follows your movement with his cute puppy eyes. Download the free iOS or Android app to learn everything there is to know about training Zoomer. Before you know it he’ll be laying down, rolling over, playing dead and more. Who would buy Zoomer?

Zoomer is aimed at any one 5 years and older. Although primarily aimed at younger children they also appeal to whole families.

Things we like about Zoomer

When Zoomer is released it should have around 30 trainable commands, including “here boy”, “play ball”, “speak”, “look at me”, and many more. This is great fun for children who want a pet dog but who are still too young for the responsibility of a real dog. The more that he is played with the more he will learn, he will also learn to recognize his owners.

One of the cutest features of Zoomer is that he has sensors on his belly so responds to a belly run by rolling over and showing hearts in his LED eyes. He can also play dead, when he does this he appears to fall over and his eyes become X’s. Zoomer even goes to the toilet on command, lifting his back leg and even making sounds.

Just like a real dog, if he’s left alone he will go and explore the room and find things to play with and look at.

Things we don’t like about Zoomer

One downside to Zoomer is that a full charge, that takes 30 minutes, will only give 20-40 minutes of play time. So if a child wants to play they will only be able to play in 20-40 minute segments rather than a long play session. On the upside it can be charged with either a USB or AC meaning you can plug him in almost anywhere.

What do people who use the Zoomer Dog think about it?

By CK (CHICAGO, IL United States)

“Wow, Zoomer is amazing! My whole family is having a blast playing with him. Even our real dog is intrigued by this robot dog. We are all impressed by the things Zoomer can do, especially how he listens to our commands (well, most of the time) and how he can “see” us. I really love how he seems to have his own personality and how expressive his eyes are. This is really, truly a remarkable toy that is proving to be fun for our entire family, including my husband’s grandmother!”

By Dad of Divas

“Over the last few weeks I have been playing with this robotic dog at home and have to say that my daughters and I have had a lot of fun. Seeing that we do not have a dog at home (though our kids want one) this robotic dog came at the perfect time to calm some of the badgering that we were receiving from our girls.

The Dog itself was a very complex toy. When I say complex, I am not saying difficult to use, but instead sophisticated and technologically advanced for a toy. The dog comes with a list of commands that you can train your dog to perform and through some trial and error the dog will learn (as a real dog will learn) how to perform these commands. It does take some time and patience to get the commands right, but when you do the fun can commence and you can have a dog that will do some cool tricks and will even follow you or a toy around a room.

By simply touching your dog’s head you are able to command the dog. Usually this works the first time you request, but there were some times in my experience where you had to ask more than once.

The battery takes about an hour to fully charge and then you can play for some time without recharging. I liked the fact that you charge with a USB so you are not dealing with having to change batteries.

If you and your family enjoy technology, or simply love dogs, this is a great gift for any youngster. Just keep in mind that unless you simply have it in the mode to do tricks, you do have to take the time to train your dog to do the tricks that you want it to do.

My family had a blast playing with this and yours will too!”

“What a great dog!! He does as he’s told, doesn’t run away, always ready to play, doesn’t shed or make a mess. And will tell me that he loves me every time!!! I am so in love with my Zoomer!!!”

While all of the above features are cool, it also appears that there will be a number of ways to get more out of Zoomer.  A Zoomer iOS and Android App should allow kids to interactive and play with Zoomer in new ways.  In addition, the Zoomer Pup page has tips and tricks on how to get the most our of Zoomer.  It seems like only a matter of time before people start to discover undocumented tricks that Zoomer can do.
If A Dog Is Going To Pee In Your House, You Better Hope It Is Zoomer

There is a lot that kids will love about Zoomer, but being able to make Zoomer pee on command, that brings kiddy fun to a whole new level!  In testing, it was a real challenge for anyone to get the full command – “Zoomer, Go Pee” out without breaking up into laughter.   The folks behind Zoomer have really created a fun, silly  and full of personality pet.  The LED eyes on Zoomer are fantastic and add a great deal of personality to the pup.  Say “I Love You” to Zoomer and his eyes turn into hearts.
